Lisbon to Cascais train
Hi,
I plan to take the train from Lisbon to Cascais. We have been before to Cascais on a tour and loved it.
Our ship docks at Santa Apolonia, can we take the train direct from there or should we walk to Cais de Sodre. The Trainline.com lists you can go from both but local knowledge would be appreciated.
I believe you can buy a ticket in a machine or at a kiosk, but it has to be validated?
Any suggestions please...

There are no direct/indirect services from Sta. Apolonia to Cais de Sodre/Cascais.
Trainline.com is WRONG repeat WRONG!!!!!
The Linha de Cascais only operates from Cais de Sodre.
Get the Carris Bus Route 728 from Sta Apolonia to Cais de Sodre.
I almost tickets from the ticket machines do need to be validated at the validators before entering the platform.

Riding train(s) from Santa Apolonia to Cascais even if possible, is not practical.
The walking distance between Santa Apolonia and Cais do Sodre is about 1.5 miles. I'd say 30 minutes walking. The alternative to surface bus referred above is undergroung metro (2 stations to Baixa-Chiado and one from B-C to Cais do Sodré and then surface train to Cascais.
2nd alternative is a taxi (plenty in Santa Apolonia). The metro ticket costs 1.40 euros/person + physical ticket (reusable) about .30 cents/person. The taxi should be certainly below 5 euros (up to 4 passengers).
