Oyster Card Refunds
I returned from London with 23 GBP left on the card. Tourist office in NY informs me that there is no possibility of any refund. Is this the case with your experience? I understand the card can be used again on a trip to London.

I'm pretty sure you have to get the refund before you leave.
The card is transferrable so if you know anyone going to London (and it is only good for London) you could sell or give it to them. |
"I returned from London with 23 GBP left on the card."
Just out of curiosity - how did that happen? I typically buy an Oyster cap amount for the number of days I'll be in town. Rarely have a farthing left. |
First time user. Put 50 GBP on it excitedly, but mistakenly. I may use it again next winter or let a friend use it.

OK - £50?? that was weird to begin w/. Guess you didn't ask at a ticket window how much to load on the Oyster.
Small cash refunds can be issued at any tube station if you return the card. If the refund is more than £5 - then you'd have to submit a form w/ the card at a tube station and would get a £ check for the refund - which is totally useless in the States. I would never have assumed I could get a refund after leaving the UK. But not to worry - that card will still be good next year or by someone else. |
