Oyster Card question

Good evening

We are in the early stages of planning a trip to U.K.

We are curious about the Oyster Card. We plan on using this to and from Gatwick to our hotel and for a few trips on the tube.

Is it worth getting the visitor card?

Can these be reloaded at a tube station? Just hoping it isn't just a few places these can be reloaded.

Thank you

Kim

I know you said you found other info . . . but just in case:

>>We are curious about the Oyster Card. We plan on using this to and from Gatwick to our hotel and for a few trips on the tube.<<

The Oyster is for travel around London -- Gatwick is not IN London.

Buy a round trip train ticket from LGW. That will make you eligible for the 2for1 discounts the entire time you are in the city. Then buy Oysters - whether you want PAYG or a travel card loaded on the oyster cards depends on how long you are in London.

For several months you have been able to use Oystercard PAYG to get to & from Gatwick.

You can also use contactless debit & credit cards as well as Smartphone apps like Appl Pay.

OK -- good to know -- But unfortunately doing that would not qualify for the 2for1's. Still need a real train ticket for that. So buying a R-T train ticket LGW>London>LGW plus an Oyster would save most visitors a boatload of £££

IME, it's always worth considering the option for 2for1. I have frequently printed more than we use, but we always use some.

I didn't know Oyster was valid to/from Gatwick -- could someone tell me the fare and does it count toward daily cap?

Thank you.

everything you want to know about Gatwick and Oyster is here:

Sofar, I appreciate your guidance.

So if I'm reading it right, one way peak is 16.50 GBP
and off-peak is 10.30 GBP.

And "Journeys on Gatwick Express do not count towards caps, but those on Thameslink and Southern services do."

Thanks again!
