Oxford left luggage
We'll be taking the bus from Heathrow to Oxford the morning of June 8 and plan on spending the day there before training on to Moreton-in-Marsh/Chipping Campden. Is it still the case that the only places to store luggage is at the various hostels in the city? Or is anyone aware of other locations.
Thanks, |
I think that is the case.
The hostels make a tidy sum storing folks for day trippers. |
Thanks janisj - hopefully they'll just store our bags, and not us!

OOPS :)
|
The YHA hostel in Oxford is almost next door to the train station. There's an email link which I'd use to ask if they'll store your things:

did the bus station close their left luggage I once used some years ago?
|
There hasn't been left luggage at the bus station for maybe 25+ years. At least since the bus station was redeveloped in the late 80's. I can't remember if there was left luggage before then but I think there was.

YHA hostel does not store luggage according to Rick Steves England Guide 2013 - but two non-YHA (official Hostelling International hostels do - Oxford Backpackers hOSTEL - 4 quid a bad; 8am - 23:30 and Central Backpackers Hostel 3 ppund a bag 7am-23:00
both are in the vicinity of the station. |
The link I posted above is the YHA site for "Oxford Backpacker's Hostel". It's, I believe, the one closest to the station. So I don't know what to say about it except, again, just email and ask to be sure.
|
Steves clearly states that the YHA hostel by the station does not store luggage - me I don't know just thought it would be useful to know which one is a pound cheaper for the same service and opening hours.
|
I just emailed the Botley Rd. location (link above, so disregard). They answered immediately, a very good sign:
"Thank you for your e-mail. We don’t offer luggage space for non- residents however I can recommend to try in Backpackers Hostel tel. 01865721761" So this is the one that does, on Hythe Bridge St: http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldet...el/Oxford/4815 Whew! |
steves says two private hostels store luggage.
|
Good, PQ, you find the other. It's Thursday, I'm going to get Indian take-out at Briar Patch.

this I wrote up thread from Steves info. |
Well R. Steve's has never been known to have much expertise on traveling in England and the information in his books ( like others) is not always up to date.
|
Steves is a big empire - he does not personally write all that but has researchers doing it - the info is as good as in any guide - and the best we've seen here so far.
