Oxford

I will be meeting with a group in Oxford. I need a place to stay in Oxford for the night. I know that there are not many places to stay but am wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I will be going at the end of June.

There are plenty of hotels in Oxford - do you have a budget? Will you have a car?

bert868 Apr 29th, 2004 07:20 AM

I will not have a car. I will be meeting a group at the train station the next day. I don't have a budget. But I would like someplace where I can walk to town in.

I've only looked through the window at nices settings for tea, but the Randolph Hotel is within walking distance of the train station and on the edge of business district and coleges.

My mistake, bert868.... I was thinking of Cambridge, not Oxford. I'm sorry. The hotel we stayed in in Oxford was definitely not in walking distance to town.

The Randolph, The Old Bank and Bath Place are all very nice and in the centre of town. The Old Parsonage is another central hotel, I've never stayed there so I can't assess it. The station is a 10 minute walk from the town centre.

I recently did some research on this for family, and the ones papagena mentioned are always praised. I stayed at the Old Parsonage years ago and liked it very much, and I believe it has gone more upscale in furnishings and price. Location excellent.

The May 2004 issue of National Geographic Traveler has a great article on Oxford; some of these same hotels are mentioned.

Elaine beat me to it! I just read that Oxford article the other evening in the latest National Geo Traveler magazine.

In Oxford the two best places to stay are the Randolph and the Old Parsonage. I can vouch for both of them. They are centrally located and have good restaurants on the premises.
I would not recommend the Bath House. There is a new hotel,The Bank, I have not stayed there. It has a modern decor but is next to a very hip and noisy restaurant. Another option is the Eastgate, a less expensive sister to the Randolph.

Sorry, that's the Old Bank and the Bath House.
Randolph & Old Parsonage ...best bets!

I don't recommend the Bath Place hotel. It has gone downhill in the last two years.

We stayed at the Randolph while attending meetings and enjoyed it. The hotel is centrally located, nice restaurant, pleasant hotel.

I am an American student at Oxford. I always recommend the Eastgate Hotel to my guests. It is not nearly as expensive as the Randolph, etc, and the rooms are nice and clean. Plus, the included breakfast is delicious!
