overwhelmed and undecided - Paris hotel choices

Doing my homework searching this site and others - and have ended up with too much info. I'm looking for a hotel in Paris following our Provence visit - we will have 2-3 days in Paris. Had an apartment in Latin Quarter last year. Considering Marais or St Germain areas this time. Will be arriving via train from Avignon. 2 star is fine for us, but charm appreciated. What recommendations do you fodorites have?

Looking forward to your suggestions!

I love the Hotel Sainte Beuve.
St. Germain area, close to Luxembourg Gardens, very charming.

I like the Hotel du Lys, in the 6th. It is full of charm, clean, and is coveniently located. check it out at www.hoteldulys.com

Do you need air conditioning? When are you going?

Thanks for the 2 suggestions. We certainly were thankful for the a.c. last July - will be in Paris end of Sept this year so a.c. likely not necessary.

This is a popular hotel in the Marais area (there is at least one other w/ same name, be careful)

Jeanne d'Arc unfortunately booked. As for St Beauve - with Canadian $ exchange a 2 star fits our budget

Ira hasn't posted yet, but he always recommends the Hotel Bonaparte, and I can see that is a great location in St. Germain.

Some people complained about the cat at the Bonaparte on a previous thread, so if you have allergies it could be a problem.
However it's got a great location and is popular. And I like cats!

Du Lys is a two star; 110 euro for a double, including continental breakfast. I think it's great value for the $$. TV, room safe, phone, but no elevator, just a beautiful old winding staircase.

Le Saint-Paul is also worth a look.

Your state of mind has been dubbed by a poster here analysis paralysis *-:) and you are not alone.

Here's a previous thread discussing the problem :)

Just the other day someone posted about choosing the Hotel Ferrandi which I had never seen mentioned before. It's in the 6th with very good reviews on tripadvisor. There is a promotional rate of $161 (US $) on Expedia for a standard double the end of Sept

My husband and I lived in Basel for three years, from where we traveled often to Paris, We would always stay at the Hotel Lindberg, a three star hotel in one of the best neighborhoods--walking distance to all the major sights, but a nice remove from tourist activity. The rooms are comfortable, if a little shabby, but with newly renovated bathrooms. The staff is sweet and very friendly. Rates ran from 90-100 Euros, a steal.

We just stayed 3 nights at Hotel de Fleurie, 1/2 block off of Blvd. St. Germain in the 6th. Nice clean rooms, AC that actually works(a relative rarity, it seems), attentive staff, and reasonable rate for a 3-star. Odeon M stop is right around the corner, with 2 lines available there. I highly recommend this hotel and location.
