overnight train to Barcelona
I am considering taking the overnight train from Granada to Barcelona in the beginning of August with two other people. Does anyone have experience with this train: do you get someone else put in your sleeper compartment; is the compartment fairly comfortable or can it be very hot in August? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. An alternative is to rent a car and make the eight hour trip in two days. Thanks.

Have you checked into flying? It can often be very cheap.

I will be in Spain within next few days and prior to the trip I did look at many options. The fastest and cheapest was a deal on Iberia: for 4 people I paid under 130 Euros (one-way, incl. taxes, etc.) to fly from Barcelona to Granada. There are 2 more local airlines (Spanair and Vueling) that offer many flights. Worth checking.

Check out the Iberia Website IN Spain for really low fares. I recently discover, while planning my trip to Galcia, that the fares shown on the Spanish website (English version available) are about 25% of the fares shown on the Iberian US website.
For August, from Granada to Barcelona, the lowest fares range from 45 Euros to 65 Euros per person. I don’t think you can do better than that and the flight is less than 90 minutes: http://www.iberia.com/OneToOne/v3/home.do Let me know if you have problems and I can “talk” you through it. You can reserve a fare for up to 48 hours. |
I also noted that these low prices (not as low as Dorota indicated) are available only at Iberia Spain site, not at US site.
Is there a gotcha using the Iberia Spain site to book the ticket from the US? |
I thought the same Greg - check out my discussion with Maribel on my Galicia thread. Maribel has successfully booked through this site before. I have read and reread the fine print and can't find any restriction regarding country of origin. I'll be using my tickets in August, so if there is any problem I will let you know.

I traveled Iberia in spring. I booked on the Internet from the US (madrid/san sebastian and barcelona/madrid) and experienced no glitches or hidden fees when I arrived in Spain.
