overnight train or plane?

My husband and I have planned a trip to Europe early january with our 11 month old boy. We would like to go from Paris to Venice so shall we take a pane or an overnight sleepr in first class. What is easier with a baby?

Do you have a nanny for the baby? If yes, take the train. If no, take the plane.

The plane is the way to go, fast and you get great scenery along the way over the French Alps, Mt Blanc, and the great view of Venice in the lagoon as you land. Have done this several times, and there are quite a few daily flights from CDG to VCE on Air France and Alitalia.

And incredibly cheap fares are available on www.airlibexpress.com for Paris (ORY) to Venice. I haven't come across any new news recently on their financial problems. See another (just topped) thread on this.

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=2&tid=34375766

Best wishes,

Rex
How does having a nanny affect this decision?
Take the plane! That sleeper train is not what you think -- not romantic, not comfortable, not cheaper. You'll arrive in Venice tired and frazzled. Take the plane and get there faster. Venice is my facorite city in Europe, and you'll want to spend as much time as possible there and not on a train. One more thing, to really experience Venice, you have to get away from the most "touristy" areas. Walk, walk, walk ... get lost ... discover!
