Overnight Train from Venice to Naples
 

Just lost the whole message I typed so this will be short and sweet.

Has anyone taken the overnight train from Venice to Naples? Would you recommend the private sleeper for 2? I believe we will be taking the 12:03 am train on a Sunday night in May.

Would love to hear any experiences regarding this. Thank you for your help!

No experience on this route but I would ONLY take an overnight train if you can have a private sleeper cabin for two people.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked into flying and it seems a bit cheaper actually so thanks for the suggestion. However, not being familiar with Naples I think we will stick with the train. This way we will save one night's accomodations for a more fun expenditure.

Unless, of course, anyone can recommmend a fabulous place in Naples to stay overnight that can not be missed.

And Suze, my husband and I definitely agree. We are all for comfort and privacy. Thank you for your input.

We are landing in Rome, spending a night. Then train to Venice, spending three nights. Overnight train to Naples to get to Capri for four nights. Train back to Rome for two nights and then fly to Paris for two nights.

We have been to Rome and Florence before so Venice is really where we will be sightseeing this time. And Capri will be for utter relaxation. Paris is just to get a taste of France for perhaps a future trip. Plus I have always wanted to see the Eiffel Tower.

Have you been to Venice, Capri, or Paris? Any suggestions?

I have taken this train a few times. I preferred the First Class private sleeper for 2. The cabin is a bit larger than 2nd class, the linen seemed a bit better as well. The morning espresso was surprisingly good.

I was able to get a reasonably good night's sleep on the train until the arrival in Rome. The train stops for some time in Rome before continuing down to Naples. The Rome station is quite busy (especially for you on a Monday morning), which effectively ends sleep time. However, I enjoyed waking up, and looking at the countryside for the remainder of the journey. There was not much to see, but it was still interesting.

Glad to hear from someone who has actually done it. We are early risers so I'm not concerned abut Rome noise. I was more concerned with being sure my husband is comfortable. And he is not as adventurous so I thought the privacy of a sleeper would make him happy. I did find that we could fly pretty cheaply and get there quicker but he said he would like the adventure of the train. I was surprised and figured if he wants to do this, LET'S GO!!! *LOL*

Was just wondering if you had any favorites....restaurants, activities, sights? Something that jumps out in your memory every time you think of the place. Certainly not a list of things. Like in Rome, there was a wonderful gelato place on Via Cavour that we would not miss now every time we are in Rome. Something that not everyone would find to try. You know?
