Overnight Train Destinations from London

Any suggested destinations in Britain for travelers who want to take an overnight sleeper train north from London? The Lake District and Scottish Highlands both interest us, but we're unsure of travel times and train routes/schedules. Thanks.

Hi, Howell, <BR>Look at www.scotrail.co.uk for sleeper services from London to the highlands. I'd recommend either the West Highland or Kyle lines for wonderful scenery, among the most scenic rail voyages in the world.

Train to Lake District can take about four hours (look up Oxenholme) on the West Coast Main line. As previous messages on these pages, look up www.thetrainline.com for prices and timetables. If travelling with children on the train a family railcard is a good investment. If you can work out the permutations, it will save you money

The Lake District is incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend it. Bowness at Lake Windermere is especially nice.
