Overnight suggestions halfway between Paris and St. Remy
Has anyone stayed someplace that they really liked on the drive down from Paris to Province?
We'd like to stop about halfway to St. Remy, which would be a bit North of Lyon, and would prefer to stay not too far from the autoroute
(within 15 or 20 minutes) if possible.
Many thanks for any suggetions.

Is there some reason you've chosen to drive from Paris to Provence? It's not a particularly interesting drive, the tolls are expensive, and you could be there in under 3 hours on the TGV, maybe for as little as 20 or 30€ per person with a PREM fare.

We kind of like the drive and have done it a number of times. The sweep down the autoroute into the Rhône Valley is always redolent of good things to come in Provence. (If the wind is blowing heavily it's a REAL thrill!)
One place we've stopped a number of times is the Château d'Igé, in the village of Igé in southern Burgundy. It's one of the less expensive Relais et Châteaux properties and is an actual château, set in pretty grounds and with a good restaurant. As I remember it wasn't far off the autoroute, one reason we chose it.

We also love the drive and do it EVERY year, sometimes staying in Avallon or Beaune or just serindipity. A few times we have stayed in Peruges.( 23 miles south of Lyon, that's an enchanting medieval fortified village worth going a bit out of the way.

I will second Underhill on the Chateau d'Ige - I loved that place - absolutely lovely. I stayed there 2 nights while I was touring around Burgundy, and would have liked to stay longer. The garden there was gorgeous even in October, and the food was delicious.

Many thanks everyone. Chateau d'Ige looks very nice. Will see what's available.
Last time we did this drive we stayed at Cote St. Jacques for a night, then spent another night or two in Lyon. We like the drive too, and usually get off the auto route here and there on the way.
StCirq: We will have to much "stuff"
(as in art equipment) with us to even consider taking the TGV.
