Overnight stop between Rothenburg and Frankfurt airport?

My wife and I will be driving to the Frankfurt airport on a Friday morning in September, with a flight leaving at about 11:00 am. If Rothenburg is our last stop in Germany, I'm worried about getting to the airport on time. Can anyone recommend a nice town to spend the last night in, say within an hour of the airport or closer?

You might want to give Miltenberg a look. We made it our first night many years ago. A charming town. J.

Miltenberg, or Aschaffenburg, or Wertheim, all these on the Main, or Michelstadt in the Odenwald, small but romantic.

Whereever you stay, leave early on Friday morning to allow enough time for the drive to the airport. The highways around Frankfurt, especially the A3, are very busy during rush hour, and traffic jams are frequent.

I would recommend that you stop in one of the lovely towns mentioned for a walk around and lunch then continue on to Ginsheim which is a 30-minute drive to the Frankfurt Airport. We stayed at the Rheinischerhof Hotel in Ginsheim a couple of years ago and wished we had allowed more time there.

We had a two level room with kitchen, bath, couch, TV, desk and balcony on the first level and then the bed and another TV were on the second level. They had free wireless internet service and one of the best breakfasts we had on our trip. They are located on a quiet street right on an arm of the Rhein River. There is a small marina there and lots of ducks, swans and geese! A very nice setting.

I think our room was around 90 Euro but rates may depend on the time of year of your booking. You can check them out at this website or do a google search:
