Overnight stay in Gatwick Airport
We are arriving in Lgw at 11:45 pm. Our flight out is 12:20pm the next day. 12 hour layover seems extreme. We need a hotel with a reliable shuttle that will pick us up that late at night. Any suggestions on how to handle this.

There is i believe a Hilton or a Sheraton right in the airport complex - hooked to it by a walkway
|
There is a Hilton...there are other hotels nearby with shuttle services TO the airport (the Arora International comes to mind)
READ the trip advisor reviews about that Hilton |
If your budget allows, the Hilton London Gatwick Airport is connected to the South Terminal by a covered walkway. The Sofitel London Gatwick is connected to the North Terminal. Either hotel will be OK, as there is a short monorail every 3 minutes that takes you between the two terminals.
I have stayed at the Travelodge Gatwick Airport and I found it to be excellent value for a budget hotel. It will be too late to get the shuttle bus from the Airport to the hotel, but a taxi or minicab would be reasonable for such a short distance. You could ask the hotel for details of a cab or taxi company that you could book. |
Both the Hilton and Sofitel have typically been too costly for my budget. But there are several hotels near the airport, all of which you will have to reach by taxi because of your late arrival time, which are less costly.
We have been comfortable at the Renaissance, and using advance purchase have not been hurt too badly by the cost. You may want to consider a breakfast included rate because you will have plenty of time the next morning to eat at the hotel before going to the airport. We have found food service at the airport to be very costly and of relatively low quality. But, that may have been poor selection on our part rather than a characteristic of all the food service. |
Thank you for your help. This has been my hardest trip detail. I will try and book at the hilton it sounds like my best bet.

Hi,
I stayed at the Hilton a few weeks ago - fine - it is a bit of a walk from monorail - good 10 minutes - also quite expensive. Cheaper not to book direct. Mark |
Cheaper options. Some of the B&Bs offer 24 hour shuttle, some don't so make sure you pick the one that does:
http://www.gatwick-guesthouses.co.uk/ btw, the Sofitel and Hilton are a good options but it is on the expensive side. There is also www.yotel.com located in the south terminal. 6 hours will set you back around 50BPs. 8 hours ~60BPs. Free internet, shower, TV, etc... |
read up at www.biddingfortravel.com or www.betterbidding.com to see priceline.com bidding results, as airport hotels in london/paris, etc.. are usually won for MUCH less than their rack rates.
good luck. do not be afraid of pricleine. people here can help you out. it is very simple, and cost effective! |
