Schlosshotel Kronberg. Great idea. I think Richardsonsnm is paying for it, so go for the $2100 suite. Come to think of it, the Bahn takes over an hour, so rent a limosine and send that bill to him too.

Gee Larry, you having a bad day? I do not believe that the OP stated how much they wanted to spend, it was just a suggestion. I have stayed several times at the Kronberg and they have MANY different options, not just $2100 suites. I don't take public transportation, i rent a car and it's 20 minutes to the airport. Larry, don't be a jealous grump, have a nice day.

Seriously, if it were my trip, I would stay at Hotel Königshof in Mainz. It is a nice, reasonably priced (DZ ÜF, €72-€82) hotel located just across the Bahnhofplatz from the station. The S-bahn takes 26 minutes from the convenient regionalbf; €3,55 per person.

By the way Larry, not everyone stays in hostels, some of us actually stay at 5 star hotels AND fly first class. Cheer up.

Check out Hotel Post, about 15 mins from airport. www.airporthotel-post.de

Personally I would avoid downtown at all costs, the area around the main train station is VERY dangerous, filled with druggies, and prostitutes as it is nothing but a giant red light district.
