Overnight ferry, Naples to Palermo

Has anyone taken this ferry. What are the accomodations like? Any info would be great.

Thanks [email protected]

There is a long discussion of this question on the Italy message board at www.slowtrav.com

We did Palermo to Naples about 10 years ago. Accomodations were pretty basic. Also.. to have a decent meal one had to rush to the main restaurant to reserve space. Perhaps, like so many things, the ferry has been improved since our trip.

There are two operators on this route. Tirrenia (www.tirrenia.it) has two ships, the RAFFAELE RUBATTINO and VINCENZO FLORIO, built in 1999/2000. Accommodation is similar to other big modern ferries. SNAV runs two older ships of a similar size (www.snav.it).
You can also go overnight from Napoli to Catania (www.tttlines.it), or from Civitavecchia to Palermo (www.gnv.it or www.snav.it).

I took the RUBATTINO from Napoli to Palermo and return last year, and the ride was good. Our cabin was comfortable enough and we dined at one of the 2 (or 3?!) restaurants aboard.
