Overnight Ferry from Ancona to Split

Hi,
I’m thinking about taking the train from Milan to Ancona and then the overnight ferry to Split. I will be traveling the day of Set.2 and need to arrive in Split on Sept. 3rd. Any suggestions on which ferry company to use? I don’t know if I want to fly this portion of my trip, there doesn’t appear to be many inexpensive flights. Thanks for your help

There are two ferry companies, Blue Line and Jadrolinija:
www.blueline-ferries.com
www.jadrolinija.hr
Both companies have sailings on 2 September. Blue Line's DALMATIA leaves at 2030 and Jadrolinija's ship (probably the DUBROVNIK) at 2100. The crossing time is ten hours which should be enough for a night's sleep. I'd book a cabin with a shower and WC.

Did the Blueline there last year it was fine beats flying.

Both lines older ships but casinos dining etc plenty to do

Blueline has the bigger ships.

Nice journey but at night got a cabin and some sleep

for 50 euro pp but deck passage sales from 20 euro or so.

Thank you for your reply. My wife does not want to spend 10 hours on a ferry! So I’m going to book a hotel in Ancona and take the high speed ferry on Saturday morning, Sept. 3rd. Any suggestions on a hotel in Ancona. We are both over 65 so a youth hostel in not what we are looking for. An upscale hotel would be fine.

The cabins on the ships are similar to small hotel rooms. Blue Line offers a variety of cabins and suites. You can spend the ten hours asleep in bed. The overnight ships get to Split at about 7 am. The fast ferry gets you there about nine hours later, so wastes much more time.

Good timing - I am looking for the same ferry. GeoffHammer, I checked the two ferry lines, and from what I can tell, neither of them sail from Ancona to Split on a Sunday night on 20 May. Is that typical? I'm guessing I need to sail a day earlier or later. This high speed ferry - does it sail on 21 May, that might be an option. I'd prefer to sleep, but everyone wants their Sunday night off!
