I'm so sad to hear you didn't enjoy your time in Toulon - I was a single young blond girl there in 1993 and never had a problem. Did you go up the mountain in the funiculaire? I would love to see it again after all of these years. The beaches there were beautiful too.

We were in Annecy for two nights, the 4th and 5th; stayed at Hotel du Palais de l'Isle, which is right on the canal on a pedestrian street. Great location. It's an old hotel but the bathrooms have been updated; the room was small but there was A/C, and that was good! We had rain (part of the time) and cool weather in Paris but much warmer in Dijon and Annecy. Also, on the return to Paris the taxi from gare registered 30 (high 80ies, Farenheit?) at 7:30 pm.
So, Klondike, guess we were there at the same time! That was moi with a 1 (or 2, at times) boule of glace cone, wandering around the town. On Tues., market day, I bought some wonderful cheese (one was Reblochon, of course), tapenade, and bread, and we had a picnic in the park by the lake. The hotel kindly loaned us a knife (a good ol' Swiss army knife would have really come in handy!), and the other couple showed up at our picnic site with a "borrowed" shelf from their hotel closet to use as a picnic table.

Hi, Grandmere. Yes we were there at the same time. Great Tuesday market! Need to correct the name of the restaurant, though...it was Le Petit CHALET (not Le Peteit Chateau)right on the canal...wonderful airconditioning inside.
Hated Annecy on Sunday (last weekend before school started and the masses were everywhere) but loved it the next few days when life had returned to normal...it was one of the highlights of our trip.
Thanks, ozgirl...didn't mean to hijack your thread.
