Over the Pyrenees
I am visiting Spain this fall and will be close to Andorra in the Pyrenees (Parc Nacional de Aiguestortes). I will be driving by myself. How much trouble/time will it take if I go to Andorra to overnite, then go on over the Pyrenees and spend a few days in Languedoc? Ultimate destination Barcelona.
Disregard any concerns about COVID requirements as they are constnatly changing. I am most concerned about ease and safety of driving |
I enjoy driving through Andorra (there is only one highway traversing it) and have spent the night there more than once. I recommend staying in the French speaking zone because Andorra-la-Vella is much too crowded. I spent several nights at Encamp which was not nearly as built up then, but the main hub is Pas de la Casa on the French border. It can be a bit raucous with vacationing revelers, but the obligatory shopping is magnificent. If you buy too much, just drive into France at lunch hour when the border post is not manned.

Thanks Kerouac. I’ve decided to go for it, but not through Andorra. Your description looked like something I wouldn’t enjoy, so plan to spend a nite near the Aiguestortes Parc to see some of the Romanesque Churches, hike, etc.
Then I plan to spend a couple of nites in Carcassonne before heading back toward Spain. That’s the main reason I’m going to Languedoc and I don’t want to just rush through, although my travels tend to rush around a bit more than many people (ie my wife) would like. |
Mirepoix might be better for 2 nights than Carcassonne as it is closer to Cathar country.
