Over the counter medication in Europe
Author: Lyn ([email protected])
Date: 2/16/2001, 5:06 am ET

Message: Someone told me today that she was sure Retin-A cream was available over the counter in Europe. Is this true??
Lyn,

I wish I could help you out. I know U can buy it over the counter in Mexico - not sure about Europe.
|
It is not available over the counter in the UK, only with a doctors prescription. I would think this would apply to Europe therefore also.
Angela

For a year now I have been on a prescription cream of 2% vitamin A and a non prescription cream of vitamin C ( the latest rage called Cellex C). I have not noticed hoards of teenage girls hitting on me so I do not know if it is worth it for purely cosmetic reasons. The prescription vitamin A cost $20 for two ounces (over a years worth). Can you convince your doctor you are concerened about future skin cancer? Current medical theory is that these creams may repair some of the damage caused by excesive exposure.
Not available over the counter in france, either.
|
if it is avaible watch what you buy. there can be considerable differences in the quality and strength of medications manufactured overseas. also you have problems comming back into this country with it. since you will not have a prescription for it the medication can and will be confiscated . it there is a question as to what it actually is you could find your butt in a large amount of hot water. please beware

An amazing variety of medicines that we Americans need prescriptions for are available for the asking (and some $$$) at pharmacies in Italy. The only one I can think of by name is codeine which is a tri-part narcotic in NY! It won't hurt to ask.
|
coco tdrue and codeine is avaible freely in britian without an rx but you can get your asss in a very fast sling if caught importing it back into this country. this is no joke many have landed in jail and paid large fines plus ended up with criminal records because of this kinf of stuped mistake

Medic....I sure hope you studied in med school....you sure missed spelling in 4th grade! (So I'm a Fodor Snob...it really annoys me that someone would expect to be listened to, when he doesn't even know how to spell the information he's giving advice on!)
|
That's "the information on which he's giving advice", stupid.
|
Prissy: Hopefully other people will heed Medic's message regardless of the grammar. It is wise advice. If we were on this post for a lesson on grammar, we would state such. Start your own thread on grammar and let the rest of us learn something RELEVENT to help us in our travels.

to dont shoot the messenger thank you for the support. those errors are typos as my typing skill are poor. my hand is always trying to keep up with my thoughts causung errors. that said what i said about bringing prescription non authorized drugs into this country is a serious offense. the customs agents will not try and weed out an innocent mistake from drug smuggling and the journals are full of hard luck sstories of those caught. i am only trying to save someone a lot of trouble. thanks again

I find hard to believe we couldn't bring it back into the USA- I live an hour North of the Mexican border and go into Tijuana to buy my medications without a prescription and for 1/2 the price all the time and I tell the customs agents- I've never had a problem. Also when In Vancouver Canada we bought bottles of codeine, it lasted for years- we drove back into USA with it- told customs agents- I wasn't arrested! Just check with customs- I wouldn't pay heed to just anyone on the internet
