For summer, I thought $1000 was about the going rate. I panic at this time of year because I always travel in mid-late May. Somehow, a fare sale always pops up in the nick of time. Don't give up hope--sign up for all of the airline and website alerts.

Rainy-day,
Well Boston to Paris on June 10th is over a thousand dollars on Aer Lingus. So it pays to go before June! Unfortunately I am a teacher and am locked into an apartment June 12 - 19 so need to find something in June!!!

We've always gone overseas in July/August, and we've always been able to find flights for under $1000. Except summer '08 and this year. I really doubt prices will get much better because the seat availability isn't that high. And even if they do, there is so much pent up demand any tickets will go in a flash.

I am watching San Francisco - Copenhagen prices, the flights are in $800-900 range, add taxes and whatever else they charge, it becomes 1,300. We really want to go, this means less trips this year :(

i got my open jaw ticket to italy this september for $790ish. this is NON-STOP too - JFK to rome, venice to JFK. i was also pricing out trips in the same month to france and spain and found them to be more expensive than italy, which made me decide on going to italy this year.

if you are flexible, you should go in the fall rather than the summer to save $$$.

I feel for the west coasters who want to go to Europe. being on the east coast, I have to hold off on Asia. It's time as well as money. Maybe we should all be going to central America!

You have to keep checking Aer Lingus as they keep extending the sale dates or start a new sale.

I doubt there's any "pent up demand" for flights to Europe. When fares are prohibitively expensive, and the exchange rate is high, people don't go or put it off.

Actually, there are just way fewer seats because the airlines have cut their schedules back so far.

Dayenu---SAS just announced a "summer sale"; $465 each way from SFO to Copenhagen. Does that help? Or does adding the taxes bring it up to $1300? That seems like a lot of tax!
