I have been told that there is a Prada outlet outside of Florence. Does anyone know where and is it worth the trip?

There's a Prada outlet called Space in Montevarchi, 56 km outside Florence.

This is the 'original' outlet, located in the Prada factory complex. Don't be fooled by that info, though; when entering the store you almost feel like you've arrived at Nieman Marcus. There are no huge signs to help you find the way and it's not too easy get there, which is exactly the point – the Prada high street locations would get quite upset if these outlet items were easier for consumers to get their hands on.

Thanks, hknn.Wewill be staying 30 minuts from here. But is it worth it? Ar the prices that different from what you find a Prada outlet in USA, or in discount stores?

Of course it's all about your shopping habits and what deals you may get in the USA but...
I thought the place was worth a visit and I'm certainly not an outlet guy.

I bought men's Prada shirts for € 65 and € 120. Also – and that may be because the store is literally located inside their own factory – the shirt dept. had literally every size available.

I didn't understand it during my visit, but the place seem to have an almost mythical status among aficionados.

Also, since you're in the neighbourhood, you may also consider the multi-brand outlet, called The Mall. There some 22 brands (Dior, Zegna, Armani etc.) are represented with their own outlet stores. I bought an Armani Collezioni suit for € 365.

Five or six years ago I used to think that the Prada outlet had good prices and bought quite a few handbags and wallets. In the past few years, the prices on the handbags has been high, and I have been disappointed and left empty handed.

I was there in October. My 3rd or 4th visit.

I agree that the prices on the items most women go for -- shoes and handbags -- seem high.

For men's clothing, esp. larger items such as overcoats, raincoats and suits, the prices can be exceptional.

I found the prices for menswear at The Mall less appealing. Best prices are at Armani and Zegna. Gucci used to have good prices (but sizes were rather random and there were some very odd items). Lately I found their stock of menswear more consistent and mainstream but pricier. Fendi menswear was a write-off.

Instead of Prada Outlet I would go to "The Mall" where you have all the other famous brands and in the same area (Leccio) you will find many other outlets (cuoierie Fiorentine) where you will find very good leather items and much lower prices. To go there by car along the "A1" "Incisa" Exit...
