Our Trip Changed Due to Volcano
We were supposed to leave from Chicago to Dublin on April 15th. We are flying American on points. I decided to change our trip to leave April 30th hoping that two weeks would clear up this huge problem. The hotels were great and rebooked at same rates. Now I am wondering if even two weeks was far enough out. If we don't get out on the 30th we are going to bag the trip until fall. Anyone else having same problem? Wondering what you did.

I have a friend who rebooked a trip to Brazil from Paris for Tuesday, slicing off 3 days. If the airport is still closed on Tuesday, he will just take the refund.

Geez, this is a tough call because it is so hard to predict when that volcano will stop spewing ash. I would like to believe that in 2 weeks this will be over but nobody can possibly know. If I were you I would keep the plans for now but keep an eye on the situation in the next 2 weeks. You can always postpone again if necessary. Good luck.

We're supposed to fly to London in a month. If it doesn't work out, we may postpone until next year & just travel around CA instead. We have already taken the time off and have hotel reservations but hopefully can work something out with Hotwire (they said they would).
Things are pretty challenging right now and we all have asthma so being around ash doesn't sound like a great idea. We will sit tight for a bit & see what materializes. We really thought this trip would work out great, as the last hurrah before S starts work, capping off his college graduation. Hope things are calm soon & stay calm for a while, but we shall remain flexible. We did not purchase any insurance. |
I've canceled. As I already said elsewhere, even if they fly, every thing will be a mess, there could easy be a new eruption at any time and the ash will doubtless make the weather terrible. To top it off, in many cases, airlines are not informing people of cancellation until 12 or fewer hours before flight time. Too late to cancel hotels, etc.
It's a no brainer. Cancel. Anybody want to buy 2 Eurostar tickets? Too bad I'm not in Europe. They'd be worth a fortune. |
