Our Hotel in Vence cancelled us-Family Emergency?-Where should we stay?

I just received an email today, that they have a fam emerg? We were staying at Bastide aux Olivers, and have had the reservations for 3 mos. They did reccomend another place, but I didn't like how it looked on the Web. The real problem is, we're leaving Tues am. Any suggestions, would be so welcome. HELP. Helaine

You might try calling the Venetian Hoteliers Assn in Venice. 39 41 5228004
or 5238032.

Sue, the recommended a place called Le Mas Armandiers-I didn't like the rooms on the Web. We were paying 135 euros at the original place, and that included breakfast. It was a beautiful B&B. I would pay th at much or even around 175usd. Many places I have tried are booked. SUE CAROL- Vence is in France, not Venice, Italy! Helaine

You might take a look at La Mas du Soleil. It's in Tourrettes sur Loup, just beyond Vence. I think their web site can be accessed through Karen Brown's, www.karenbrown.com. We stayed there last year and really liked the location, the hosts and the villa.

If you have a car it may be worth contacting Le Mas d'Artigny - it's in the Vence area - it's rack rate is much higher but when I sent a polite letter a couple of years back looking for 2 budget rooms in low season they offered me a discount of 70% (yes really) on the rack rate.

Since tourism is said to be down they may be able to offer you a good rate, especially if you explain your predicament.

Helaine,

Here are some suggestions:

1. Judy's reco is at www.masdusoleil.com
2. try the Hotel St Paul in St Paul de Vence (they have a website if you search)
3. Not in same area but someone posted about Hotel Castel Garoupe
"located right on the Cap. It is more of an apt-style hotel/Villa nestled amongst some of the finest villas around. It has a small swimming pool and tennis courts plus nice breakfast included in price. It is a few short blocks from the beautiful, posh Eden Roc Hotel just to give you a hint of the nice area it is located at. They also have a website, if interested. If you will be driving a car, there is free parking in the back. We have always experienced good times here. Good luck."
4.Look for a thread here called "Please help-Cote d"Azur B & B"

try collinedevence.online.fr It's a lovely B&B with pool, owned by a Franco-German couple (Kristin is the one you'll deal with. She is a delight.) We stayed there last May. You'll need a car, of course.

We stayed at the Hotel American summer of 2001 and were very pleased. Had a lovely front room on the 3rd floor.

Although boatgirlhm has already left and may not be reading this, I'd second the suggestion for Hotel American. Although close to everything, it is a not swarming with tourists, and on a small, quiet canal.

A lot of confusion here. Several people seem to be talking about Venice, not Vence. I was trying to figure out which canal in Vence a hotel would be on!!! And I know there is an Academia in Venice, but not so sure about one in Vence. And I'm sure that the Venetian Hoteliers wouldn't be too helpful for finding a hotel in Vence.
