Karwn, your pictures are to die for! Don’t know if I mentioned it earlier, but we were last in Venice in 2014 , so this is a trip down memory lane, thanks!

geetika, I'm so happy and honored that you like our photos! Venice is so beautiful and so unique that it's easy to take interesting photos without too much effort. Where did you stay in Venice? Do you think you will return? Venice is definitely a place I would love to return to if we stay healthy and mobile long enough.

Thank you to tripplanner001, BlueRidgeBoots, and PJTravels for still following along on this lengthy TR. Venice is, indeed, very special. It's at the top of my list!

geetika Jul 25th, 2025 07:27 PM

Karen, I’m so enjoying your descriptions and pictures, the pleasure’s all mine. We stayed at an apartment close to Piazza San Marco, but in 2014 it was relatively calm and not really crowded. One of my husband’s dearest friends is from Venice and he showed us around and took us to parts of the city we would never have seen. A truly unique experience.

Yes, Venice is special, though I don’t see us going back. Which is why your TR means so much to me, thanks again!

Adelaidean Jul 25th, 2025 11:34 PM

I’m very much enjoying your latest instalments too, Karen, all your photos are great but that final evening shot is gorgeous,

TPAYT Jul 26th, 2025 04:27 AM

Your photos and descriptions of Venice are breathtaking.
My absolute favorite photo is “iconic view of Venice #1”….don’t know exactly why, but it speaks to me.
Fodorites are such good storytellers and you are at the top of the crop.

KarenWoo Jul 26th, 2025 07:17 AM

Thank you geetika, Adelaidean and TPAYT! I love the evening photo, too. My husband took that one. TPAYT, I really like the "iconic view of Venice" #1, too, because the gondolier is adjusting his hat, and you have the bridge, the canal, and the pastel colored buildings. The other thing I like about the canals are all the reflections in the water.

I will have to take a pause here. We are heading to the Cape with our daughters and their families. But I promise I will continue when we get back.

architetta Jul 26th, 2025 09:08 AM

One of our very favorite things to do too is sit on the deck of one of the Zattere restaurants relaxing and watching all the boats go by on the Giudecca Canal - beautiful.
Love your photos!

esm Jul 26th, 2025 09:25 AM

WOW, your pictures bring back memories. One early morning I went up the Companile and I was the only person there.

CAH85 Jul 26th, 2025 11:58 AM

Fantastic report, sad you skipped Rome since that is our next trip. Thanks for the effort.

zebec Jul 26th, 2025 12:57 PM

Karen, we twice have stayed just up the road from you guys there in Dorsodouro. The Locanda Montin restaurant rents rooms, as does their immediate neighbor.
Have fun at the Cape!
I am done. the gondola

twk Jul 26th, 2025 01:16 PM

Still following along silently. Enjoying the details and photos.

shelemm Jul 26th, 2025 02:27 PM

Those horses are charging right at me!

And that black toga, very chic and expensive.

The Venetians do wonderful things with artichokes. But that could also be said of the Romans. And the Italians.

JoanYUL Jul 27th, 2025 05:14 AM

I’ve been following along and enjoying your TR immensely Karen. I was in Venice SO long ago as a student. At the time, while I enjoyed Venice, I can’t say it was my favourite destination, but your photos and insights have given me reasons to perhaps try to return sometime. It seems like a special city! I too have appreciated your fair and honest impressions in your TR of all the places you visited, and valuable information!

Jackie44 Jul 27th, 2025 02:03 PM

Karen, I am so enjoying your trip report. Your photos of Venice are stunning! I loved Venice. When we visited it poured rain for one day and was still so magical and beautiful.

architetta,, we love this, too, including having drinks and bruschettas. The Zattere is one of fondest memories of Venice. We returned on our last day in Venice to the same restaurant.

How lucky you were to be the only person there! I reserved our tickets for the Campanile in advance, and checked first to see when the sun would be setting. Sunset was awesome! I have photos to share when I post my installment for that day.

CAH85, we visited Rome in the 70’s which i realize is a long, long time ago and the city would probably seem new to us so many years later. But we wanted to visit only new places on this trip since, at our ages, one never knows how many years of international travel we have left. And I was also concerned Rome would be crazy crowded during the Jubilee year. You will love Rome!

Jackie, Joan, twk, shelemm, and Zebec, thanks for following along and for your comments. They are much appreciated.
