Otters in Arno?

Did our eyes deceive us, or did we see otters in the Arno in Florence just off the bridge west of Ponte Vecchio?

I'm sure you probably saw Otters! We saw some kind of large fish as well, probably why the otters are there! Although from looking at the Arno I wonder how anything could live in there, it really is quite muddy and disgusting looking.

ciao anne!

what you have seen weren't otters but "bisam rats" i hope i spell it right! it's a rat big as an otter, do the same "work" and lives in the sweet water but they do have not flat tales but "rat tales". they are very cude and live (as far as i know) all along the arno river.

tanti saluti da firenze

christina

Bisamratte = muskrat

Thanks all. I guess I don't know my otters from my muskrats. We also saw lots of fish and turtles in the river, and salamanders or something like that on our hotel terrace. I was amazed to see so much wildlife right in the city.
