Hi Bala,
You are going to the most wonderful city in Europe (at least that is my opinion). I keep going back - just can't get enough. There is more to do that you can believe - get a book on Paris and enjoy reading about all the things to do there. The people are kind and helpful there, alway nice top me. if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.
My next trip there is in February and I can't wait.
Good luck,
Sue

You'll be busy enough in Paris, but if you want to see a bit more, you might consider taking the train out to Versailles or to Chartres.
Versailles isn't as nice in the winter because the gardens aren't blooming and many statues are covered with bags to protect them from the weather, but inside the chateau is the same, and it is nice to walk the grounds in winter without the hordes of tourists.
If you go to Chartres, visit the local tourist office and they will give you a walking tour pamphlet. The cathedral is wonderful (my favorite!) but the old town and several other churches are well worth a visit.
Have fun.

Have you been to London? Have to been through the Channel Tunnel on the Eurostar? If the answer's no to both, then why not grab the chance of an overnight stay in London? It's only 3 hours by Eurostar, from the centre of Paris to the centre of London, and would make a great contrast to Paris.
You could see some of the major sites and grab a night at the theatre. The chance to see the two major cities of Europe in one 8 day trip - not bad.

Ahhh, Paris in January. . .
Paris is great ANYTIME, great city! If you're nice to them they'll be nice to you. Versailles is a good day trip. Just get on the yellow metro line and take it to the end (or close to the end?)
Monet gardens were great in Giverney but probably not in January. Normandy is a must see for all Americans but that's probably an overnight although there are good tours out of Paris.
There is plenty to see in Paris. Relax, don't cram too much in and really immerse yourself in their great city. A day tour to Loire valley is easy too.
Have a great time. Via con dios

..I also would recommend Chartres..Chantilly is also a quick journey as is Fountainbleau . there are several "tourist agencies"(ex american express) who have 1 day tours to the chateaux of the Loire...although pricier than doing it alone, they are very convenient.
Paris is so wonderful that I'm not sure you need to even think about a day away, but if you do, I hope the above is useful.
