Oslo to Gala
We just received a gift of a week's time share at Gala Fjellgrend for the third week of August. We will be flying into Oslo and staying for a few days both before and after our stay in Gala. We need recommendations for a place to stay in Oslo -- and any other information that you feel will be helpful.
What is the best way to travel from Oslo to Gala.
We appreciate all types of information for this trip. Thanks

It's Gålå - the difference is important in Norway where "å" is a separate letter of the alphabet. There is a journey planner on www.rutebok.no but it doesn't seem to recognise Gålå.
I'd suggest contacting the people for access instructions:

May I recommend an Oslo hotel which we've used, as have members of our family in recent years. We all found Hotel Gableshus to be a pleasant, "reasonably priced" (for Norway) lodging in the embassy district, walking distance to town, also served by a street car. Their buffet breakfasts ranked with the finest we've had anywhere...and the establishment is managed completely by women.
Have a nice visit to this ultra-scenic country.

I might add that to us, this is a PLUS.
Our favorite in Copenhagen is managed likewise.(Ibsen's Hotel)...I agree fully with my wife on this point!

Excuse my erroneous information above...the Gata I found is not the Gala you're looking for...but I did find Gala (Gola on the map..don't know how to get those little marks above the a's...I was in the little village of "A" in the Lofotens a few years ago...still don't know how to pronounce it) about 60 kms northwest of Lilliehammer, near the River Lagen. In the post above I meant to say Oslo, instead of Norway...at any rate, it sure sounds like a beautiful place.
I imagine a train would be a good bet for you. Seems like there is one to Vinstra at 8:33 (2 hrs. 41 min.), return at 11:56 (2 hrs, 47 min)...cost about $60 going out, and $40 returning to Oslo. Vinstra appears to be about 10 miles from Gola.
Go to NSB for further train info.

Probably the best way to travel is to rent a car at the Gardermoen airport and drive to Gala. Tower mentioned Vinstra - it is a small town. My grandparents came from Vinstra and I have driven there. Not sure what means of travel you would have from Vinstra to Gala. Perhaps you could email the time share and ask.
When you land at Gardermoen Airport you can take a train into Oslo. Ask about the local train into Oslo at the tourist information and not the express - the local is half the price -and only a few minutes longer. We stayed at the Royal Opera hotel by the train station. It is a nice hotel. The last time we stayed there was 4 years ago and I think the hotel may have a bit different name. Think it is the Thon Opera Hotel.
Be sure to visit Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo.
