Orvieto, Italy rental car companies?

Based on advice I read on this board a while ago, I am trying to find a rental car company that will let me pick up my car in Orvieto rather than Rome (hubby and I will train to Orvieto from Rome then pick up the car and spend some time touring the Tuscan countryside). But Nova and Europcar don't list Orvieto as a pick up location. Does anyone know who does?

I rented a car a couple of weeks ago from Hertz. We picked up the car at Orvieto railway station after arriving there from Rome and dropped it off there before heading back to Rome. It all worked very smoothly. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Last year I had a rental from Auto Europe that I returned in Orvieto.

I think that Hertz may be the only one now. Autoeurope used Avis there but no longer.

I rented a car in Orvieto in May 2005 using Autoeurope and they used Hertz. It is just to the right and down a block from the funicular.
My car was there and it all worked very well.

Dropped it off in Florence by the train station.

I called AutoEurope 1-800-223-5555 to rent my car in Orvieto.

Sorry, it must be late and I'm tired. I meant to say the Hertz office is just to the left of the funicular about a block or less.

Goodnight.

Autoeurope will get you a Hertz car in Orvieto. Avis closed their office a few months ago. BTW, pick up your car midday and enjoy lunch at I Sette Consoli, my favorite in all of Italy.

Thanks for all the replies! I just checked and Hertz actually has a lower rate than Auto Europe right now, so I think I'll book directly thru them. Thanks again.

Hi A,

>Hertz actually has a lower rate than Auto Europe right now, so I think I'll book directly thru them.

STOP!

Call Autoeurope and ask them to meet Hertz's rate.

If H is significantly less than AE, it is because they are not including the MANDATORY insurance.

Another thought. Are you sure the Hertz rate wasn't in euro, and the AutoEurope rate in dollars? That mistake has been made often.

Thanks for the heads up on that, I will call Auto Europe and ask them to match. Hertz claims the rate includes everything but also refers to it as the "estimated" rate in fine print, which made me a little nervous. And no, it would be an easy mistake to make, but both rates are in euros.

Another thought - I got an even lower rate thru Nova. We would have to pick up in Rome, but are both good at driving manual and are used to driving in big cities (although I'm sure w/road signs in Italian it could be tough) so maybe we could handle it...
