Orvieto, Bevagna, San Gimignano
 

For this part of our trip - have researched to this stage-How is it sounding? 6nights Tuscany/Umbria.
Train from Sorrento to Orvieto
*Orvieto- spend afternoon sightseeing town- stay overnight.Pick up rental car next am.Scenic drive and lunch stop on route to Bevagna.
*Bevagna- 2 nights.Day trip then after 2nd night scenic drive etc on route to San Gimignano.
*San Gimignano- 3 nights staying in surrounding countryside with day trips around area and visiting San Gimignano at evening maybe dinner.
After leaving San Gimignano scenic drive etc on route to Florence. Drop car at Florence airport then train to Florence for 3 night stay.

Visit Civita de Bagnoreggio from Orvieto. It's close, and really unique. One of the little restaurant places has the best bruschetta pomodoro you'll ever taste.

You're doing an awful lot of back-and-forthing...

Why Bevagna? It's pretty but not, in my opinion, worth going out of your way for.

I'd suggest choosing one of the towns in the Val d'Orcia instead, such as Montalcino or Montepulciano. The SS 146 and SS 222 roads (both of which you could take to get from Montepulciano to San Gimignano) are among the loveliest scenic drives in Italy.
