Orta San Giulio
Has anyone traveled to Orta San Giulio, a small village in the Italian Lake Region? I am looking for recommendations for dinner. Thanks!

topping for you. Did you try a search here? I know a few folks have written about it. J.

Several times--my favorite venue in the Lakes--perhaps all of Italy.
Do not miss the photo gallery posted by Janet Zinn at slowtalk.com The best shots of Orta I have seen. Ristorante Olina is good. |
I have spent many many summers in the lake Maggiore area and I have been to Lake Orta too. There is the beautiful Villa Crespi, situated on a side of the hill around the lake. Very elegant and expensive, if you want to splurge. Otherwise there is a lovely restaurant right on the edge of the lake, near the ferry pier in Orta San Giulio. I stopped there once with some friends and we had lunch on the terrace watching San Giulio Island. I don't remember the name though....

The hotel on the left side of the central square of Orta (as you stand facing the lake) has a nice dining room. I agree with Bobthenavigator. Orta is one of the most beautiful spots in all of Italy. Magical.

The Hotel on the left of Piazza Motta is Hotel Orta--the one on the right corner--on the Lake--is Leon d' Oro. Both have good dining rooms.

Just found this thread, so sorry if I'm late.
My wife and I got married in Orta (by the mayor) and stayed in the Hotel Orta. Everyone on the street was stopping to congratulate us, including the Swiss and German tourists that were around (we walked from the hotel to the town hall in our wedding garb). It was great. It's a great little town and very picturesque. The island is really neat and there is a nice restaurant one it (run by the monestary, I believe). We took a boat from town hall to the island for our post-wedding meal (there were about 12 of us). The hotel was very helpful in arranging everything. I'd highly recommend both the town and the hotel. |
