Organized Tours

We will be in Rome for 4 days with our 2 children ages 9 & 11, in late July. Based on info from this site, we have arranged a 3 hour private tour of the Forum & Colliseum upon arrival (with Daniella Hunt). Now the question is what to do about Vatican City...on our own...ask Daniella if she can do a tour for us (i.e. if she's not already booked)...5 hour tour with lunch break with Walks of Rome which will cost about $275 for the 4 of us? We need advice!

Hi
I haven't done it yet, but based on many recommedations from this forum I've booked a couple of walking tours
with Scala Reale, and one of them is
of the Vatican (Museums, Sistine Chapel) and St Peters.
For me it's about $50--don't know if they have family rates or not.
They have a website.
Assuming I am as thrilled by the Sistine Chapel as I hope to be, I may go back for a second visit on my own, and go straight to the Chapel, skipping the rest of the Vat Museums tour which I would have already seen.
Also take a look at the website
romeguide.it
they mention private (small groups really) tours of the Vatican

Peggi,

There are free tours of St Peters run by the Vatican Tourist Office but they don't cover the Museums. Enjoy Rome is also another walking tour organisation that give good tours of ancient Rome and the Vatican etc - they have a web site and children seem to enjoy their tours (ie I was on one of their torus and found that the kids liked the tour especially the Ancient Rome one)

Hope this helps,

Cathy

$275 for 5 hours sounds awfully pricey to me! I hope it is better than a superb tour for all of that
