Ordering wine
How do you say "House Red" and "House White" in French?
|
I would just say "un vin rouge, s'il vous plait" or "un vin blanc, s'il vous plait". If that gets any kind of question back in response, then say "vin de table, vin ordinaire".
Best wishes, Rex |
are you ordering a bottle or a glass?
|
Patrick's point is well taken. I assumed a bottle (or a "carafe") os "pichet" (litle pitcher).
For a glass, it would be "une verre de vin rouge, s'il vous plait". Note that I typed out s'il vous plait a total of four times now. It is the more important thing to remember of everything I have proposed. |
Whoops! "verre" is one of those words that "looks like" it should be feminine, to me! The correct article is un verre.
|
If you're ordering by the glass in a café for instance you can simplify it even further -
<<Un verre rouge/blanc/rose s-v-p>> will elicit a glass or house red/white or rose. Dr D |
Hi ss,
The house wine, usually "vin ordinaire", is "vin de la maison" - rouge, red or blanc (blan), white. ((I)) |
