Ordering Limoncello...how much do you get?

Okay, I'll confess I love the stuff and unfortunately have not had the pleasure to experience it in Italy...but counting the days.
Soooooo........given that, when you order it how much do you get? Okay, okay, truth be told I'm addicted and I want lots!! :D Is it the US equivalent to a shot? Pardon my ignorance...have only ever ordered beer or wine in Europe. Thanks.

Order a whole bottle and you can have that. Or order a glass and that is what you will get. There is no standard measurement that all bars adhere to. Maybe you should buy a bottle and keep it in your room to help when withdrawal hits.

cherylforeurope Mar 23rd, 2006 12:32 PM

Hey....it's not that bad! :) No standard measurement....hmmm???...so it's a guess to the amount one would receive? I can live with that. And I will have a bottle at some point on the trip...will be in the Sorrento area so I know one will leap into my hands! ;-)

Hi C,

You will get about 60 to 90 cc.

viaggio_sempre Mar 23rd, 2006 01:23 PM

Ira, what is that in ml's?

VS :-"

maitaitom Mar 23rd, 2006 01:38 PM

At Ristoro Lamole in September they just brought over the bottle and said, "Drink as much as you like." Tracy and our friends had to drag me out.

I recall getting an apertif glass that was not quite full in most places. Probably close to a typical shot glass is my guess. At home, the serving is a bit bigger! :)

laughingd2 Mar 23rd, 2006 02:08 PM

As the bartender said, if you have to ask, its not enough!

grsing Mar 23rd, 2006 02:32 PM

If they follow the typical European shot standard, it's slightly more than half an American shot. Doesn't mean everyone will follow that, of course. Also, cc is a cubic centimeter, which is a milliliter, so 60-90 cc is 60-90 mL.

auldyins Mar 23rd, 2006 02:39 PM

Are we the only people who dislike limoncello despite dozens of visits to Sorrento?

grsing Mar 23rd, 2006 03:03 PM

I've had some limoncellos that aren't particularly spectacular, but yeah, you might be the only people I've met who dislike the whole genre.

auldyins Mar 23rd, 2006 03:09 PM

Bet you're glad you haven't actually met us.

wliwl Mar 23rd, 2006 03:58 PM

It needs to be kept in the freezer for best taste! (Just thought I'd mention that...)

sandi_travelnut Mar 23rd, 2006 04:13 PM

right next to the vodka

cherylforeurope Mar 23rd, 2006 05:01 PM

Tom - I posted this question right after seeing your post about your upcoming trip to Paris!! Can't wait to read your trip report.

God forbid they bring me a bottle and say drink up! :D In my trip notes...try a "singing gondolier"!

jcasale Mar 23rd, 2006 05:38 PM

I plan to try lots of limoncello next week in Sorrento!!!! Has anyone heard of something called creme de limon? A friend of ours said he had that in Sorrento and described it like a dreamsicle only with lemon and a kick! Sounds delightful, but I haven't heard of it or read about it anywhere. Is he pulling my leg?

birthdaygirlstrip Mar 23rd, 2006 05:46 PM

I love all things lemon and the idea of a good lemon liquer has my interest piqued! ( or however you spell it...peaked...picqued...)

What does Limoncello taste like? Does it just taste like a lemon vodka?

Trader Joes sells both limoncello and limoncello cream (?)...what would I have it with? Do I mix it with anything?

I once had some limoncello pound cake...believe me...I definately felt a bit buzzed! Which is weird since the alcohol should have cooked off during baking...but it was very, very moist...so maybe they poured a little liquor over the cake?

edhodge Mar 23rd, 2006 05:57 PM

Stupid question but is limoncello a sipping type of liquor or a shot style?

LoveItaly Mar 23rd, 2006 06:00 PM

"Ordering Limonello...how much do you get?" As much as you order cherylforeurope! Sorry, just couldn't resist. Just remember it is easy to get ill from drinking to much Limoncello as it is sort of sweet. I have known a few people that didn't this of it as having liquor so to speak and overdid it and really and truly were sick in the middle of the night or the next morning.

cls2paris Mar 23rd, 2006 06:53 PM

Hi Ed - it is a sipping drink. How much you choose to sip is up to you!

birthdaygirl - it tastes like a burst of lemon in your mouth. Best when served very chilled. I keep it in my freezer.
