Can any tell me if the Orangerie is open? Has the date been pushed back still farther? What does it look like for June of this year?

saw this in France Guide a few days ago

"Starting in June, Monet’s Waterlilies series can be viewed as it was intended and demanded by the famous Impressionist artist, in natural daylight. The Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume collection, 144 paintings by Cézanne, Renoir, le Douanier Rousseau, Matisse, Derain, Picasso, Modigliani, Soutine, Utrillo, Marie Laurencin, etc., will be housed in a new gallery, as part of the Orangerie’s reorganization plans. "

But I won't believe it's open till I walk thru the doors!

If you are speaking of the museum IN Paris, you might find this excerpt interesting:

The Minister of Culture and Communication, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, convened a panel of academic experts and museum curators to study the site. Based on their findings released in January 2004 (see copy of their report), he decided that two important sections of the fortification should be preserved. As a result, the re-opening of the museum has been further delayed beyond its already revised 2006 estimate, and the project will add another €3 million to the original €25 million budgeted for the facility's renovation.

Yes, the one in Paris. As far as I know, it is the only one that we have all been waiting to reopen for years.

The French Tourist board announced this month that it will be re-opening in late May of this year . They advised checking this site for updates..www.rmn.fr ..

As I sadi above several French newsletters are also saying late may or early June. Keep your fingers crossed.

Must be a union operation with plenty of kick-backs to Pols.

I have heard that the Orangerie will be open about the same time that the French complete a manned mission to Mars.

Are any of the paintings on loan to other museums or has everything been put in storage???

I'm actually sorry I bothered to even look up the information about it NOT opening in 2006 which was obviously ignored. And I'm glad I dropped out of the line of "all of us" waiting for it to reopen.

The Orangerie that has been and still is closed for renovations is located at the far end (Place de la Concorde end) of the Tuileries Gardens that begin at the Louvre and run to the west.

The Monet water lily paintings are murals, not detachable paintings.

I certainly appreciate your effort and was aware of the information, but someone who was the three or four months ago led me to believe otherwise. Hence the questions.

As per the Office du Tourisme de Paris:

"Après d’importants travaux de rénovation, le Musée de l’Orangerie des Tuileries ouvre à nouveau ses portes au public à partir du 2 mai 2006."

So, opening on May 2 this year, in plenty of time for DanM's June visit.

Maybe I.'s info was ignored because it was incorrect, according to Parisinfo, France Guide, Office of Tourism of Paris and the museum's own website.

I think it is tempting to find clips on the internet about issues, but you have to be really careful about the source and date of the information. I suspect Intrepid took that quote from a non-official site, which is basically a private touristic website (discoverfrance has it, looks like it, in any case). Unfortunately, it isn't dated but from the reference to a 2004 report, it is probably not current. A lot of those private tourism websites do not keep up-to-date accurate information. I always try to search official French govt. websites (such as the Minster of Culture).

In fact, it appears to have taken information from an article that was in LeMonde on 1/25/04, two years ago, so current information would be more accurate, of course. The LeMonde article is basically identical in the quote that exists (including the 3 million euro), but the larger context was about a mural they found during the renovation. The LeMonde article didn't cite a link to the 2004 report, though.
