Oradour-sur-Glane

Hello! Since i am arriving by train in Limoges from Paris in May, I would like to visit Oradour-sur-Glance. How long should can I expect the visit to last?
Thanks!

We were there in October and spent probably close to two hours. There is a memorial building and a small museum before you walk through the village. It is a very compelling sight...we found ourselves stopping and sitting just to absorb it all.

We spent about 3 hours there. Your time frame will depend on how much time you spent in the museum. Many of the exhibits are labeled only in French but there is ample English explanation on most of them. After or before the museum you need about an hour to wander around the site.

There is information on my time there in a report I wrote; Oradour comes after the Basque section:

I agree on 2-3 hours. It is about a 30-45 minute drive to get there, as I recall.

Also agree 2-3 hours, including time just to absorb and reflect. It's a powerful place.

Be sure to notice the sewing machines in just about every ruin--a mute reminder and tribute to the courageous women who perished there.

I'm wondering how your trip to Oradour went, in particular the details of travel from Limoges to the site. What I'm considering next July is a day trip from Paris to Oradour, as part of a WW1 and 2 tour with my son. Do you think it's feasible? (I've been to Oradour before but wanted my son to have the profound experience, too. It would be the culmination of a two-week trip and would have to be "done" in a day.)

I would check the train schedules, and then what service from Limoges (I assume) there is. I think the train trip might be several hours, and then the trip to Oradour.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I had checked the train schedule and it is quite possible to complete the out and back from Paris in one day, allowing 3 hours to visit. I suppose I could rent a car to get from Limoges to Oradour, but was wondering about other forms of public transport: are there buses to the site? would a taxi ride be less expensive than car rental?

We were in Limoges with a group so had a bus at our disposal that took us. My recollection is that it is at least 30 minutes and maybe 45 minutes travel time.
