Opinions-renting a car in Ljubljana
I have the option of keeping a rental car for an early Monday morning departure from the LJU airport or taking a bus/cab. I am staying in downtown LJU at the Park Hotel. Does anyone have experience driving there (LJU)? Is it difficult to find one's way to the airport from downtown?

Hey Bob,
I'll be in LJU from Sept. 12 through Sept. 16. We're wanting to do a daytrip to Bled and Bohinj and possibly to that famous castle outside of LJU. I met a student from there last year and she is kind of the inspiration for the trip. I'll be connecting with her for part of that trip.

I'd advise you to know the way to the airport ahead of time. If you don't, then turn in your rental car ahead of time (I assume that isn't at the airport) and take a cab to the airport on the morning of your flight. It is not only a matter of getting there more quickly; it's also easier because you won't have to struggle with turning in the car before your plane departure.

We are going to Ljubljana the first week of October! It is getting to be a popular destination. Chris, Ljubljana is an easy city to drive in with fairly well marked roads. The highway system is better than Italy and the first time we made that border crossing, we were astonished.

The drive to the airport in the early morning will take you about 30 minutes. Just follow the signs to the Aerodrome. You can turn the car in at the airport easily. If you do decide to take a taxi I recommend you call Goran at 386-40 246 644. He is a private taxi service and will charge you 4000 Tolars, which is a good deal. Please tell him that "Matt sent you".

Chris and Bob, enjoy your visit!
Cheers,
Jan

Hi all - Just returned from an amazing 10 adventure in Slovenia. Do NOT worry about driving in this country... the roads are extremely well maintained and have perfect signage. The trip from downtown to the airport should take between 20 and 30 minutes and the car rental agencies are located right next to the check-in gates. This is a small airport, not at all difficult to find your way around. I would keep the car and take yourself there, it should be no problem. If you have any questions please let me know.
