Opinions on options from Ephesus to Cappadocia
So, the way my trip is working out - the day I want to get from Izmir to Cappadocia is a Wednesday - when the only flights are to Istanbul.
Is it worth it to adjust my schedule to either get to Ephesus a day later and then get the first-thing-in-the morning flight from Izmir to Cappadocia or rent a car and drive so as to see sites along the way and also already have car rental taken care of? I think either basically would give us the same amount of time in Capadoccia....but both mean giving up a night in Cappadocia. The other option is to see Ephesus first thing in the am - then start our road trip on the same day (after getting our fill of Ephesus) then we are back to my original schedule :) |
You might want to read my trip report; click on my name to find it. We drove to Cappadocia in three days, but on the first day we took side roads and therefore did not leave Pammukkale (sp?) before noon or so the next day after our visit of Hieropolis. You probably could cut the time down by one day, but that would be pushing it if you intend to visit Aphrodisias, Hieropolis and the Ihlara (sp?) valley on the way.

I just saw this exact itinerary is discussed here:
http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/i...day_drive.html Sounds like it is easily doable so once again, I guess I answered my own question :) |
If time is short, it might be that going via Istanbul is the fastest way, as long as the transfer point is in the same airport.

We were routed through Istanbul SAW after our Pegagus direct flight (Izmir-Kayseri) was cancelled. Even if you had to but both legs it would only be $100 pp.
