opinions/help with my itinerary!

Hi,

I would love some opinions/help with my itinerary!

I fly into Nice on the Wednesday 30th July and need to be in Rome on Wednesday the 6th September. During that week in between I would like to do the following...
Spend a few days around Nice/Monaco French Riviera etc.
Florence / Tuscany region for a few days
Venice for 1 day (maybe 1 night also?)
Cinque Terra for a day trip if I can squeeze it in.
And also in this time somehow travel from Nice to Rome.

Any ideas? I am thinking of getting the train to Florence and basing myself there for a few days and doing day trips to Venice and Cinque Terra if this is possible and not too difficult to coordinate. Then getting the train from Florence to Rome. Or maybe getting the train from Nice to somewhere near the Cinque Terra, then going onto Florence? I am in the midst of researching how to do all of this but would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the logistics of this itinerary!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Too much territory in too little time and way too much time sitting on a train.

Venice is really not doable as a day trip from Florence (7 to 8 hours on the train). Also I think you would need to drop the CT.

You really have only 7 days - and can easily use that on the riviera and Florence with perhaps 1 day trip - or a stop at another town on the day you head to Rome. (Actually you could easily use 7 days on either one - we have and never came near seeing everything we wanted.)

July 30th to Sep. 6th gives you tons of time to do all that comfortably.

Did you mean to write August 30th? Then forget it, no way can you do all that.

Here's what you can do that makes sense: Wed-Thu-Fri on the French Riviera, Sat. train it to Genova and the 5 Terre (pick one of the five), Sun-Mon-Tue stay in 5 Terre (day hikes, boat rides, maybe a visit to Genova), Wed. train to Rome.

But figure it out yourself, with www.trenitalia.it and www.voyages-sncf.fr

Are you departing yesterday (July 30), August 30, or is this a trip for next year??

Oops sorry I meant 30 August! Thanks for your opinions so far (and the reality check!) Need to rethink where I want to go the most...

Especially at that time of the year, 1 day in Venice would be a total waste of time and money. You'd just get caught up in the daytripper crowds and see mostly masses of people, the trash they strew about, and the crummy shops and restaurants along Daytrippers' Alley.
