We stayed at Locanda Orseolo in June 2005 and loved it. We had a courtyard view room which was small, but certainly workable. You can't be the location or hospitality of the owners. I initially had selected Hotel Ala, but after reading all the great reviews on Fodor's and Trip Advisor I changed our reservation.

My husband and I stayed at Antica Locanda Al Gambero and absolutely loved it. We did have one of the few rooms with a veranda overlooking the canal though. Made all the difference in the world even though it was a bit too cold to enjoy it fully. The location of this hotel cannot be beat!

The reason that the Locanda Oseola is the #1 hotel on tripadvisor is because the kind of people who stay at Cipriani don't post on that forum.
This is why I take tripadvisor with a grain of salt. The budget places usually are ranked highest because the people who stay there are the type to post on TA.

San Moise is a nice hotel. We stayed there in 2005. The rooms are small but very nice. Bathroom in the hotel room is very nice also. If you book there be careful that they do not say they over booked or problems with the room. They want to send you to a sister hotel of theirs a few blocks away. Not as nice and the view from the window is another brick wall. We were warned about this through this site and it did happen to us. We ended up staying the first night in their sister hotel but due to me being very persistant (Very Load and argumentive)we did get our room in San Moise

We've stayed at the Locanda Sturion twice, 2003 and 2005. Liked it a lot, great breakfast, helpful, friendly staff, GREAT location.
The steps.....69 of them to the registration desk. A landing to rest on. They're not allowed to put an elevator in since it's been a hotel since 1290. We will return.

I stayed in venice last november and bought a very nice pair of black shiny wellingtons in case the waters came up. They never did, so I gave them to my DD on return. She now mucks out the donkeys in some of the smartest wellies cornwall has ever seen. and only 15E!
