opinion on apartments in Rome
 

I've done a lot of reading, read francos entire post on the best neighborhoods to rent in Rome. Now the problem is finding something that works with our dates and budget.

Any opinions on either of these:

I'm still unsure where the best area will be for us. I want something that will allow us to walk just about everywhere. We want to see the usual sites, Colliseum, Forum, Vatican, Pantheon...... I know it's a big city and realize there will always be noise, but I'd like someplace relatively quiet for sleeping.

Any opinions on the apartments or neighborhoods would be greatly appreciated.

I couple of years ago, I rented an apartment in the Piazza Navona area (via dei Coronari, to be exact) and I found it very quiet, and central - on foot just about everywhere.

for me it would definitely be the piazza navona one. we stayed near there last year and i can tell you that it makes a huge difference being able to get to where you want to be so easily. and there is so much to see in that area, plus all the restaurants and cafes you could possibly want. click on my screen name if you want to read my trip report!

were you visiting rome for a third or 4th time, i might suggest you go with the Trastevere one, but not for a first trip.

Neither of these seems to have much in the way of windows. Also the Piazza Navona apartment seems to be a basement. Which might be okay with you. What time of year are you going?

The Trastevere one doesn't list a washing machine in the amenities but does mention it in the text. I'd confirm that and find out if it's a combo washer-dryer.

Piazza Navona is definitely a better location and perfect for your walking plans.

Cpelk - Did you book through this website? If so, what was your experience? Trying to find a reputable apartment rental agency for my own trip to Rome.

Italian apartments almost never have dryers. They usually provide a large drying rack, which we have found holds a lot of clothes and works just fine. Dryers there often take forever, and I have heard that some have a water pan for the extracted moisture which has to be emptied. Does not sound like a useful thing to me.

I don't know that agency. Go to Slowtrav.com and look for reviews of the agencies. We like sleepinitaly.com lot, and VRBO.com.

Sleepinitaly.com seems to be a favorite, and they have lots of options. Thinking of going with them, myself, for a spring trip.

Whoever you choose, avoid BestRentsRome. They are not to be trusted.
