Opera or something similar in Rome

We will be in Rome this May and want to see something similar to an Opera, classical music, or a show of some sort. The dates that we will be there, there is no Opera at the main opera house : ( Is there somewhere else where we could see something like this? I have come across some churches that have concert operas, but are they worth going to? Thanks in advance for the help!

You gonna be there on the 8th? "Elixir of Love" might still be available. Now, for better answers tell us exactly when you WILL be in Rome, OK?

The opera concerts in churches are not fully staged operas, and the companies are not professional companies. The singers are talented students and semi-professionals. There are no sets, and the singers wear generic 18th century costumes. There is usually a reduced cast, and no chorus. Instead of an orchestra, there is a small ensemble. The sight lines in a church are not as good as in a theatre, either. Some of the performances are a sort of concert version of an opera, while others are a selection of arias from different operas.

For classical music, I like www.classictic.com .

Some museums and churches have concerts, or combination art tours with music. The Galleria Doria Pamphilj has frequent musical events, in a sumptuous Renaissance palazzo. The Villa Farnesina has musical events on some Sundays, combined with a tour of the beautiful Renaissance villa. The Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone has an art-and-music event. I haven't been to any of them, but they sound interesting.

Thanks bvlenci, that website was very helpful! Was looking forward to a fully staged opera, but will have to settle for less. What is the attire for a smaller event like the church of Sant'Agnese?

I've never been there, but I'm certain that you don't need to get dressed up.
