Opera in Verona

I just bought tickets online to see an Opera in Verona this month. I didn't see anywhere what time it begins, does anyone know? And, what would be appropriate dress?

I couldn't find a hotel there so we are going to stay at Hotel Gardesana on Lake Garda -- is this "do-able"? Besides the arena -- what should be my high priority sites to see in Verona?

Barb: Usually, it starts at 9 p.m. and may last until 1 or 2 a.m. !! Make sure to take layers, a cushion to sit on and some food and drinks as well. If you have a seat on the gradinata (stairs) you do not need to dress up. If you have an expensive seat (poltrone) it is appropriate to dress up a little. You will see a lot of very elegant people. :-)
You can check details at
www.arena.it
(click the English flag).

Enjoy! I was there some 15 years ago and it lasted until about 2. a.m. and was getting little cold then. We went for a hot chocolate afterwards to warm up.

I did it three years ago. I don't exactly recall when Aida began, but I think it was earlier than 9 PM.

The opera lasted at least four hours. Taking a cushion is a good idea, and it's warm inside the Arena, I didn't feel any cold.

Women in Verona are very elegant. It's not that they dress up, they are always classy.

Surlok

Good morning, Barb
In case you need more information, you
might try
<www.cosi.it/verona/eng/verona_home.html..... Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

Hi Barb,

Cushions can also be rented once you are in the Arena. I would also caution you that if you have gradinata seats, then get in line early or else you will be left with very bad seats (i.e. behind the stage). I saw Aida there in 1998 and remember that the stone stairs were very warm from soaking in the days sun. So bring plenty of water to drink. Also be prepared in case of rain -- which may delay the show, but usually does not cancel it. Have fun!
