Opera in Rome
 

I'll be in Rome in mid-March and would like to attend the opera (I've never been) however in poking around online I haven't found any performances. Suggestions please and thanks!<BR><BR>Linda

Linda - I was in Rome two weeks ago and there were a couple of operas at churches - one was near the Spanish Steps and the other on Via Nazionale. There were flyers in the tourist info kiosks which are located near the main sights. The Opera of Rome had Faust but the only available tickets for the night I had free were over 60 Euro so I didn't go. But the operas in the churches were more like 20 and 25 Euro. Mara, thanks for taking the time to respond. I had been looking in all the usual places without luck--hadn't even thought of churches. Money is an issue as we are a family of five. We went to Rome last March and now we're bringing the three nearly grown-up children--it is a wonderful city.

Since you have never been to the opera before, I suggest you forget about going in Rome. Lots of other things to do that you will enjoy more. If you don't know the music in advance and there are no English subtitles, your almost grown-up kids probably will be bored. Wait until you get to NYC where the NY State opera and the Met have the English titles and then you will enjoy it much more. The suggestion to go to a music performance in a church was a good one.
