You've got the right idea, Plafield, you'll love it, I'm sure. Try and get to La Fenice also, if only for their 8 Euro tour-truly excellent, you learn a lot about its history, and also the situation about the fire. I must confess, that like Neopatrick, I'm hard-pressed to understand, about the disappointing decor at La Fenice. When I think of that stunning ceiling, the chandalier (provided by the NY based Save Venice foundation) the oh so elegant pale pink and green and creme public spaces, that incredible Sala Apollinee, and in the bar area, those purposely left unfinished frescos of Dante's Divine Commedy-left that way because they were part of the original La Fenice-I just am taken away. This is the cultural heart of Venice-a must-see on a first time visit.

Meanwhile I've been trying to find information on operas that are done a few nights a week in the summer in another "Venetian Palace". As I recall they are small and the audience literally moves from room to room with the performers. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
