Opera House tour in Paris
If I'm not mistaken, the last time we were in Paris, there was a behind-the-scenes (curtains) tour offered at the Opera House. Does anyone know if it is still offered? Any other info you may have is appreciated. Thanks in advance..Sue

Sue: According to their website there are guided tours, yes. Have a look at
www.operadeparis.fr
However, if I remember well, not all info is in English.
For guided tours in English (that will most probably include backstage area) they ask to call: 01 140 22 63 for further information.
Hope this helps. Bonne chance!

Sue: Sorry, left out part of the phone number. Correct is: 140 01 22 63
and it's FF 60.- per person.

Thanks, Ursula! I will contact them when I arrive. ~~Sue

I am not familiar with anything in English but the basic tour which is listed on their web site (I think it's somewhere around 1-3 pm, I think that info is on the web site and you don't need to call). I have taken a special tour that was more extensive, but it was only in French. Such tours in French will be listed in the entertainment weekly mags (Pariscope or l'Officiel des Spectacles) under "Conferences"; they aren't that frequent but may be several times a month. YOu never know, they might have one in English, so you can check those publications. If you heard of one before, you might contact whoever was offering it (these are not typical and the companies that do them need special permission from the Opera house).

Went on a tour of the Bastille Opera House in Nov. 2000.

You can take a backstage tour of the Opera Bastille. It will be given through the middle of July. See the sets, elevators, lights, machinery, etc. You can call 01-40-01-19-70 for information when you're in Paris. For more Paris information e-mail me – [email protected]

Try Paris Walking Tours...haven't been on their tour of the Opera House yet, but they do such a good job on other tours that the Opera House one is bound to be good. I'm not sure how behind-the-scenes it is, but they might be able to help you.

Check their web site www.pariswalkingtours.com for the schedule.

I'd be interested to know what you find, so please keep us posted! :-)

The Garnier lets you have a self-guided tour and you can take as long as you want. I found it to be one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen.
