Open Jaw Airfare June 2003

I found airfare for $808.00 flying from Kansas City to Heathrow and from Venice to Kansas City. The flight is leaving in early June and returning in late June. Does anyone know if this is a good price? Can I expect airfare to drop as the dates get closer? Thank you for your replies. Laurie

I think that it is a good price, and to answer this specific question - -

<<Can I expect airfare to drop as the dates get closer?>>

The answer is clearly no (speaking in generalities). That doesn't mean that you might not find a sale pop up - - but the chances are not all that good that it will exactly meet your needs (assuming that this meets them to your satisfaction).

I have seen some consolidator fares that MIGHT be a tiny bit better than that (they don't list Kansas city so it would take a phone call to know for sure), but I think they are only for travel ending bu June 3 or 13. They're quite a bit higher for travel through mid-August.

Best wishes,

Rex
For our trip to Europe this past May, we needed an open jaw from Houston to Frankfurt and London back to Houston. Found a $636 fare on American the end of February and took it. Never did see anything cheaper. In fact, as the date got closer, the price went up to around $800.

Thank you for your replies, Rex and Bettyk. I also found a flight from Des Moines, which is closer to us, for $765.00 including taxes. But, I was hesitant to book it because the first 2 legs are on United.
The website was economytravel.com and I have never used them before.

Rex, can you recommend a good consolidator that I could check with as our dates get closer?

Thanks again for your help. Laurie

I previously found this answer about consolidators here on this forum, and got a good quote from this company last spring. But I ended uo not buying from them because we decided to go with FF miles instead.

Author: Rex ([email protected])
Date: 12/22/2001, 12:18 pm

Message: I do not have a lot of experience with consolidators, but I did have a good epxerience with one - - www.the-joy-of-travel.com - - this past fall. They found me a better fare (on some routes, but not on all) than I could find elsewhere. Their website is essentially worthless - - but it does list their toll-free number - - 1-888-AIR-TIXX - - and the help you get from a real human is non-pushy and professional. Occasionally, you might only get voice mail there, but they will call you back.

Best wishes,

Rex
