Open in Paris on New Year's Day

Hi
I've never been in Paris over New Year's Day.
I know it's a national holiday, but do you know of any tourism sites that are open?
I was in London at that time last year and was pleased that several museums were open that day, but I expect that would be less likely in Paris. This is not a first visit, so anything not on the A list would be okay.

Most national museums will be closed on New Year's Day, but not necessarily all. The best way to find out for sure is to check the individual web sites or pick up a copy of the Michelin Green Guide to Paris, which has listings with the information you need.

It looks like the musee Jacquemart-Andre might be open on 1 January, at least it was last year according to its website.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.
thanks

Someone posted this site last year and said it listed holiday activities:

http://www.metropoleparis.com/

I believe the Pompidou and the Maillol will be open (both have bars/restaurants).

Good luck!

Here's a website that had the best information I could find as far as what days museums are open:

Elaine, we've left Paris twice on NY Day so I can't help with your question but I wanted to tell you that a lot of the public transport was free after a certain time on NY Eve and at least on the morning of NY Day when we were there last year. We rode the metro for free and also the RER to CDG, ended up with some extra metro tickets because we did not know about it.

HI
marcy, thanks but I had emailed the Paris tourist office already and they just replied that it is too soon know what if anything will be open next 1 January. I can't seem to find any info on the metropole website either.
I was hoping someone who was actually in Paris on that holiday could respond, but I may just book anyway and take my chances.
thanks all

I noticed on a Bonnie Churchill's website she has attractive pictures of the Musee Jacquemart-Andre and notes that it's open every day in the year. So that's good to know in case one wants to visit on New Year's Day. This looks like a great musuem but it's actually a mansion.

I can't speak to January 1st, not having been there on that date, but I think museums change a bit as to whether they are open on the big holidays (such as July 14th, also). I think maybe they trade off as to which will be open so at least some are -- at least on some holidays, not on the ones where almost none are open. So, that's probably what the Tourist Office meant -- they haven't decided their opening schedule for that holiday next year. Metropole Paris won't be any help on this, whatever they may have listed would have been for one particular date in the past, although that may give you some ideas. Just check in their archives on a date in December under the section where he lists museum and exhibit stuff, would probably be the best bet. Michelin Green Guide is not going to know for Jan. 1st next year, either.
