Only one restaurant in Rome

If you had the opportunity to eat at only one restaurant in Rome, which one would it be?

Hi John, that is a difficult question. What price range? What kind of experience would you want? Great food? Atmosphere? I just got back from Rome, and we had good to great meals everywhere we ate...maybe I am easy...There are so many... Check out the "Rants & Raves" section. it does help. Judy

If a splurge is ok, the best restaurant we've been to in Rome is a toss up between

* AGATA E ROMEO (Via Carlo Alberto 45 - Tel. 06/4465842, closed on Sundays and for lunch on Mondays/August/January). Although the neighborhoods of Sta. Maria Maggiore, and the street in particular, are not what one could call Rome's prime, the place is one of Rome's best. The place is very elegant and well kept. Cuisine is the traditional Roman somewhat criatively modified to use the quality ingredients available in the markets/season. Very fine wine selection. Reservations are essential.

* IL CONVIVIO (Via del'Orso 44 - Tel 06/6869432, closed Sundays and Saturdays for lunch) Very small and intimate. Reservations essential. Classical and Roman Cuisine with a new, creative touch, specially regarding the use of herbs. Probably one of the best in town for a romantic evening.

Paulo

Oops ... forgot to mention where I would go next time (if a nice soul decides paying my bill :

* La Pergola (on tops of Rome's Cavalieri Hilton Hotel, Via A. Cadlolo, 101; Tel 06/35091; closed Sunday and Monday and all of January; open only for dinner) For the first time in years, a Roman restaurant has made it to the top 20 (according the Gambero Rosso publication); I'd love to check it out! *Very good creative cuisine (9 times out of 10), marvelous (supposedly the best) view of Rome, very fine and complete wine list, impeccable service (well ... 19 times out of 20).

Paulo

* According to the Gambero Rosso guide!
Paulo,
Just let us know the next time you are going to Rome. I am quite sure we wouldn't have ANY trouble collecting enough money for you and your wife and kids for a nice meal at La Pergola from all the people who have enjoyed your helpful suggestions here!
ciao,
luigi
