Only in France - another viewpoint on tipping.

For those of you who like to debate tipping in France, here’s an instance that you might not have considered.

Fifteen nude ‘life’ models demonstrated recently, in freezing weather in favour of being tipped. They are paid minimum wage, with no benefits or retirement plan.

Turns out that art students have traditionally passed the hat (actually a 'cornet', a wrapped up paper) at the end of the modelling session. But the students have complained, and the courts say that it is illegal to tip public servants.

Only in France would artists’ models be considered public servants!

The full story, with photo at
http://timescorrespondents.typepad.c...artists-m.html

It’s an interesting blog at any time, by The Times correspondent in France, but some days are more interesting than others.

Hi car,

>Only in France would artists’ models be considered public servants!<

I don't agree.

Only in France would artists' models be employees of the gummint.

There's a link to another story about nude models at your cited site "Carla Bruni sues over nude portrait on bag".

Hello Carlux,

Are you of the "family" Carlux or live there? I ask because my husband is a Carlux!

I live in Carlux - didn't know there was a family Carlux! In fact one of our proudest moments was when our neighbour said to us that we were no longer Canadians, we were Carluciens!.
