only 3 days! help!
Can't find good answers anywhere else, so hoping you can help:
First week of July, arrive Dublin Wednesday at noon, depart Saturday noon. Would love to - See a bit of Dublin (+museum) - Get out into some green country! (I live in rugged mountains, so green hills sound great) - Avoid tourist traps - Get a taste for what locals love (pubs I already know about) I WILL NOT have a car, and am traveling solo. Is there some way to do this: Wed at noon: train to Kilkenny, see sights, stay the night Thurs: go to/hike around Glendalough or Wickow, stay the night there? Fri: back to Dublin (via the coast?) Sat: flight leaves at noon Thoughts/suggestions? Was hoping to miss Friday/weekend crowds in Dublin, but this seems the best way to get it all in. First time in Ireland so I could be way off track. Thanks for your help! |
To get really helpful replies you should repost with a better subject line.

Hello,
I'm Dublin-born and bred and write an alternative travel guide on Dublin. You have already got some good ideas and I would add: - Kilmainham Jail visit; essential to understand modern Ireland - get the DART electric suburban train to Malahide (castle, marina, nice seaside village), Howth (walk to the top of the hill and there is a cliff walk) or Brey (Victorian seaside resort - lovely DART journey). You will mingle with the natives on the train - fun! - Kildare is interesting - about 40 mins by train from Dublin and has Japanese gardens (lovely in June) plus the National Stud (horses). Hope this helps, Peter |
Posted it under Ireland, thought that would show up in the heading.
So is it possible for one to get from Kilkenny to Glendalough without a car? If so, is it worth the trouble? thanks! |
nativebajan: Welcome to Fodors. Some info on how the forum works.
All threads end up in the same general forums -- Europe, or United States or Asia, etc. There are no separate country forums. Clicking on a country simply lets folks search for some of the posts about that country. So your "<b>only 3 days! help!</b>" could be about anything anywhere in Europe. You have received some good info but you will get lots more if you start a new thread w/ a more informative title. Something like "3 days Dublin to Dublin?" Or "Help w/ a quick trip to Ireland" or something like that. |
No. There's only a general Europe forum.
